Call me crazy, but I could tell it was a great piece of gear as soon as I laid eyes on it. This thing is built like a tank, both inside and outside. The components used are high quality throughout, and I think the finish looks great.
OK, enough about looks...how does it perform? TOTALLY TRANSPARENT!!! To my ears The Framptone Amp Switcher does not color the signal at all, each amp responds exactly the same through the switch as it does with the guitar plugged directly into the amp. The switching is SILENT, both electrically and mechanically. The switches are plunger types without the clicking feature - I really like them better than the standard "pop", just a personal preference. The unit has a great LED setup, which provides indication for the "A" amp, "B" amp and "Both" features. The unit also has a feature where it will remember the last single amp you had on, very cool.
I tested the Framptone using a Carr Slant 6V (4, 6V6s, think clean Fender Bassman) and a Carr Imperial (4, 6L6s, think huge Fender Twin). Both amps are set for a clean sound using their respective onboard reverb, and on the Imperial I dialed in the Tremolo. Phasing was not an issue for these two amps, so I didn't have to use the phase reversal switch found inside the Framptone. Switching between amps was effortless, and once you balance the volume between the two the "Both" sound is incredibly. Can you say 3D? I've always liked the idea of layering amp sounds to come up with new colors, and this box really allows you to do just that. I'm looking forward to trying different amp combinations, and also putting some effects on one side of the chain while leaving the other "dry".
Finally, I think this box is worth every penny of the amount that I paid, and as an added bonus it was signed by Frampton himself."
